Sorbent, SCA’s leading consumer tissue brand in Australia and New Zealand is supporting Cancer Council's work for the fourth consecutive year. Australian streets, shopping centres and living rooms come alive with the sound of music in the lead up to Daffodil Day on Friday, 27 August 2010, thanks to the launch of Sorbent Sing for Daffodil Day campaign.
The campaign is in support of the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day, which raises vital funds for research, education and support services for those touched by cancer. "Sorbent Sing for Daffodil Day is a way for Australians to show their support for an incredibly worthy cause and spread the message of hope represented by Daffodil Day," says Drew Lette, Marketing manager at SCA in Australia.
If the chorus line reaches 50,000 people before the end of August, Sorbent will increase its donation total to 150,000 Australian dollars to the Cancer Council Australia.
Donations make a difference
The money rose through Daffodil Day, which averages $8 million annually, has played an important role in helping to improve the survival rate for many common cancers by more than 30 per cent over the past two decades. Despite this, one in two people will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.

“Funds raised through initiatives like Daffodil Day are vital in helping to make a difference in the fight against cancer,” says Karen Armstrong, Cancer Council Australia’s Director of Marketing and Corporate Partnerships.
This year is Sorbent’s fourth year of partnering with Cancer Council and will see its contribution to Daffodil Day total well over half a million dollars.
“We encourage all Australians to get involved with Daffodil Day – through exciting campaigns like Sorbent Sing for Daffodil Day, and buy a daffodil pin, some fresh daffodils or just make a donation to help raise much-needed funds for patient and family services for cancer sufferers,” says Karen Armstrong.
Support from Australian Football League teams
AFL teams Essendon and Brisbane will throw their weight behind the campaign, encouraging fans at their upcoming match to participate in a mass quarter time sing-along on Sunday, 22 August at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium.
In addition to the national Sorbent Sing for Daffodil Day campaign, Sorbent has also released its annual range of limited edition Daffodil Day products featuring the daffodil - the international symbol of hope to those affected by cancer - to assist its 2010 Daffodil Day fundraising and awareness efforts.
