Roger Black, the second fastest British runner of all time, inaugurated SCA’s 16.4 million Euro (£ 15 m) materials recycling facility (MRF) in Southampton, Hampshire.
This is the first MRF in the UK to use the new near infrared technology.
The new 11,512 square metre (124,000 square foot) facility recovers paper, plastics, metals and glass from local authorities, industrial and commercial sources. It uses high-speed near infrared technology to identify and sort different types of plastic.
The facility is capable of operating on a 24 hour, 7 day per week basis, with the capacity to process up to 200,000 tonnes per year.
